After weeks of researching blogs, photography forums and magazine articles, not to mention being “that” creepy guy in the store who never buys anything. I finally came up with a short list of camera equipment that I would count on to take me to that next level.
Once the list was final, I wasted no time searching for an online camera store. Being a 25-year-old planning to move overseas, you can understand that my funds would be slightly low – and that’s sugar-coating it. In other words I was searching for the best deal. And nothing was going to stop me.
Which brings me to a website called simplyelectronics.net. This website seemed perfect! The best prices, local phone number, everything in stock and free express delivery. With little hesitation my shopping bag was full and checkout was complete.
After three weeks of frantic emails and phone calls trying to chase down my order. I received an email telling me that my order has been damaged in dispatch and that I should expect more delays. Cancel order. (Update: Finally got my refund 41 days later, after contacting Hong Kong Consumer Council).
I moved on to another website called DigitalRev, a website that a guy at work recommended. I made sure to do my research before buying this time, everything seemed great. So I went ahead with my order.
The order arrived 4 days later, safe and sound. I couldn’t be happier.
So here it is, my list:
- Canon EOS 60D Camera
- Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM Lens
- Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens
- Canon EF-S 18-55mm lens f/3.5-5.6 Lens
One more lens to go, a second-hand 70 – 200mm. Which should round out my bag of tricks nicely…for now.
